So, let's talk about something that's been stirring within me lately: fasting.
And no, I'm not just talking about skipping meals. I'm delving deep into the essence of self-awareness, discipline, peace, and most importantly GOD.
Fasting- abstinence from food or drink or both for health, ritualistic, religious, or ethical purposes.

I recently found myself reflecting on a heartwarming conversation about the incredible impact my grandmother has had on my life. This woman was an absolute gem. She had that old-school charm, with a touch of that primitive Baptist vibe. You know, modest, stern, and devoted to her beliefs.
What truly struck me about my grandmother was her choice to embrace diversity and show unwavering respect for everyone she met. Despite her traditional upbringing, she never hesitated to form friendships and partnerships with people of all backgrounds – different religions, races, creeds, and colors.
My grandmother's wisdom has taught me that true growth and expansion of my mind and spirituality come from "my relationship" with God, and not rigid beliefs. I can experience God anywhere because he is in me.
It had recently been on my mind that I needed a fast and cleanse, I just hadn't determined when I would start. So when my mentor, and life coach Sis Nayyirah Muhammad reached out asking that I join her in this year's Ramadan, I didn't hesitate.
In mentioning to others about my fast. Some have asked? Why are you fasting?
Are you trying to lose weight? How long are you doing it for? Or, but you're not Muslim, are you?
I'm not. But I will say that the unity, teachings, respect, and love of God that I experience when I'm in the presence of my Nation Of Islam family; I'll congregate whenever I get the chance, because as a now healed woman, I unapologetically go where the love is.
I remember my grandmother telling me that when I pray, I can talk to God like I would my closest friend. My prayers didn't need to be oratorical, or fancy in scripture or ritual; God already knows what you need and what you're going through, she said, he just wants you to talk to him. In that, what she did was help me begin to shift what a lot of us for generations have suffered from.
Tradition and limiting beliefs.
In my self-discovery journey, I was obtaining my certification in life coaching and cognitive behavioral art therapy, and studying the psychology of people.
It's my relationship with God, and the awareness of my spiritual, mental, and emotional state and capacity, based on who I am and what I am made up of that leads and guides me in my day-to-day life.
Today marks day 5 of my fast as I prepare this post, it will be day 7 when it's published. Yes, I've encountered potential triggers, and moments of anxiety along the way, but guess what? I'm going to crush it! Because the struggle of the challenge is expected, it's deep deep! And what I'm most grateful for in my growth, is the wisdom and awareness to know that the deeper the challenge, the more profound my foundation at completion. And that makes me excited about the next level of substance I will walk in as a woman - mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
My mission is to help inspire women to commit to "her" journey of every next best version of themselves. Past and present fasts have offered me a multitude of spiritual and foundational benefits, here are a few I'd like to share with you for your journey
