God works in mysterious ways, they say. For me, this sentiment couldn't have rung truer than when I discovered I was pregnant at 39, after 17 years of raising my older children. It was a moment that defied expectations and challenged perspectives, leading me on a profound journey of healing, growth, and divine purpose.
My young adults:
Preston-25 years old
Janae-23 years old
Shortly after the passing of my grandmother, I received the unexpected news of my pregnancy. This timing, coupled with a recent health scare involving a procedure for cervical cancer increased the risk of miscarriages or early labor and could have easily instilled fear and doubt in anyone. Yet, with these factors, I found peace in a profound trust, and all I could say was "I see ya God".
For most, a 39-year-old woman, and mother of a 17-year-old and 19-year-old, that is the time to spread our wings, go outside, and do what we please, without the restrictions of having small children preventing us from doing so.
But at that point in my healing journey, It was deeper than that, I had been on my journey for several years at this point, and had reached a level of healing and growth that I knew God had something special in store for me.
Besides, I'm a true Cancerian, a true homebody, 6 years ago I could less about '"being outside" (cultural phrase) LOL, but even that required some acknowledgement and healing.
Nevertheless; determined to carry a peaceful pregnancy and increase the chances of nurturing another well-rounded, beautiful brown little boy. Here are a few things I discovered and embraced in redefining my approach to true child development.
Rethinking Parenthood's Purpose
As I navigated this unexpected path, I began to question the true purpose of parenthood. Was it merely about bringing a child into the world, or was it a deeper commitment to nurturing and guiding a unique soul? This introspection led me to to seek education and realistic factors not just on raising a child, but on cultivating their holistic development and growth.
Divine Development
I coined the term "divine development" to describe my dedication to nurturing not only my child's growth but also my own. Recognizing the world's acceptance of the lack of true child development, I committed myself to raising a child based on their individuality, personality traits, and emotional needs. You see when it's easy, it's easy, but when it's unexpected God says (to me) show me all "that' that you've been talking about. The journey became a mutual path of growth, shaping both our lives in profound ways.

Nurturing the Mental and Emotional: Transcend The Soul
In nurturing my child's development, I discovered a profound truth: the bond between parent and child is not just for a season but for a lifetime. It is a bond that transcends time and space, weaving together the threads of love, understanding, and mutual respect. Through this bond, we find strength in each other, supporting one another through life's learning of each other, breaking the familiarities of toxic parenting from generations before us.
Divine Timing
I often think about the healing and growth I would've missed out on had there been no Devin, and I'm grateful to God for already living and operating in a certain space to recognize the significance of it.
Conclusion
I want to encourage parents to not forget to slow down, discover, and learn whatever it is when life starts "lifeing".
The answers, or at least the clues to considering, raising, and loving our children lie within the things that we require and are made up of.
Remember that we don't have to be perfect,
our willingness and intention will help plant the seeds for a legacy of generational health.
